Halved

Crackling stars in the sky
Casting electronic light
Circulating leaving astrological
Questions pondering my parturition
Maybe I was meant to be a woman
But I’m not giving up my manhood
So I’ll be a domestic mouse
Not too demanding if you
Feed me cheese and peanut butter
Put a tuxedo on me and I’m actually
A man of good measure
Fought hard to be this boy
And even a garçon one might say
I can serve you up an ice cream
Before it all melts away
I’ll build things like shelves and
Sparks in your heart
Even hammer out belts
Put food on the table
Pull the sheets off make the bed
Take care of you always
It’s a woman’s work they say
No hill is too high
Warm up your blue
Dry the water in your eyes
Might be a man’s job too

As a Woman

If I came back as a woman
Would you love me
Would you want me
Do women that live here now
Have a better chance than I
If I came back as one
Would you notice me
Would you want to be
Close to me
Like I want to be close
To you now
Maybe I’m being too vague
Not enough likes
Not looking for likes
Looking for love
As a man

Under the Moon

On some remarkable stretch of land
Stood a less remarkable man
With so many natural endowments
An ancestral fortune dying to explode
Jumped up in his chest out through
His throat and danced right out
The door without words for how
Restless it feels to rise up in a
Family that requires him to plant
Many seeds on the farm of his
Tapestry and the best of all
That wants to be genuinely was
Always asked to be differently
Different colored socks
Plain colored shirts
Careful what you wear
Or the kids will call you out
Learn how to hold a gun and
Kill things learn how to aim
Listening to the sound of the cattle
On the ground imagine them flying
I can feel the grass in my ear
And the echoes of my favorite
Memories that shaped the man I became
Even though he was only half
Of what was expected
Half of what was intended
Though his first cries
We’re as full and loud as the sun
