Oblivious

Can’t see me don’t know me
Oblivious to who I am and
What I need blind to my truth
Absorbed in your own needs
Blundering like a bull through
Life and everyone around you
Spacey unconscious and
Totally zonked whereas you’re
Forgetful to the point that
No one else matters and
Of course it’s sad
And of course we have
Compassion for this
But how do we survive
Around you when you’re
Out to lunch all the time
Negligent emotion waves
Goodbye to relevant
Feelings that are not your own
So no comment
What knavery!
All the strength and respect
Our connection embodied
You wrestled it to the ground
And killed it! Because
You would just think
All of us want more of you
When some of us
Need less

Selfish

The intransigent woman was
Selfish in her plays and so the
Boy made sure to get out
Of her way he didn’t have
Whatever it was that she needed
The most beautiful girl
In the world to herself
At the time the rain was falling
Most would find her behavior
Exceptionally appalling but to
Sit and drink tea with the enemy
Seemed quite natural for to find
A clever moment to reside
In some personal protected space
Made room for manners and
Insatiable grace that could not
Be found by blowing his top
The leaves covered the trees
In what seemed like the reddest
Fire burning louder and brighter
Than any pain or discomfort
Could protest and at the beauty
To remark and gaze upon reminds
One of how short life has become
Water dripped down from the roof
Onto the ledge and then again
Upon his forehead and the ground
Shook beneath his feet in what was
The greatest understanding for
What to behold in this life is
More beautiful more gorgeous than
Any willfulness to battle with
A girl who is drowning
In her world and of her needs
Whose lips were burning to kiss
And make out with herself
There must be more to life
Than just to be concerned
With your own wealth
Maybe I gave too much

Icy

Find your restraint
Pull hard if not from tragedy
What defines a genuine like?
Manicured outsides
Betray the truth
Your idea of close
Is different from mine
We can’t be bothered
With the idiosyncratic
Tendencies for nuance
And embittered semantics
How boring to be honest
I found my chagrin icy
Greeted with poisoned apples
It would be unnecessary
To assume that the
Best intentions were
Wrapped ‘round your heart
Ascot a scarf more likely
To keep it warm from
The freezing cold emotions
Your character betrothed

Goodbye

I wasn’t allowed to need you
We all had something
Better to hold onto
Before the pandemic
We can’t let it kill us
If we’re still alive
But it sometimes feels like
We have died
Even if we’re still alive
Friendships have died
Grandma’s have died
Pet’s have died
What happened to us why
I wasn’t allowed to need you
I wasn’t allowed to cry
I wasn’t allowed to need you
And we barely said goodbye
