Empty Room

Mattress in an apartment
Building not completely
Abandoned but certainly
Left behind defenestrate
Hells bells holding on
By a windowsill

Just a bit of chocolate
Could bring out my best Superman
Why is she hunting me down
Pheromones heightened
Scent of a lover or
Leftover shudders

Obviously something there
Flowers in the courtyard
Down below the whistling
Of a passerby and a possibility
Dry heat dry hump
Clothing pressed against me
Breathe deep long and wide

How did we get here anyway
It’s all so confusing yet
Laying here looking at the ceiling
Somehow I’m glad that
It happened

Are we bad or is this good?
The stoics would say it’s neither
I can hear river music in my head
Too many things to do
Before we’re dead
Many reasons to keep alive
A mattress, you and me
And an otherwise
Empty room

Room Service

Wild horses and warm springs
Lost creeks and campgrounds
Far away from the hotels and
Rooms we rent those things are
Uncivilized to dreamers like me
Destination unknown I could
Hand pick the places I wanted
To travel to and you forgot
That I was an important part
Of how you got to where you
Ended up but I think I saw
You remember why in a pigment
Of my imagination violet and green
Brown carpets below where
You were crawling under
My arms working your way
Through my chest of feelings
It was almost as if you wished you
Could be in two places at once
I’m not sure what you were
Going for but there had to be
A plan if you could you probably
Would be capable of loving us
Both even though I wanted even
Less than what was expected
I new I was going to miss my flight
And the rooms weren’t even situated
Next to one another to knock
On the door but it didn’t matter mine
Was empty because you were
Always over there with her until you
Snuck back just to see if you
Could wrangle the both of us
Like we were equally important
You almost did it but I knew that the
Best place for me to be was back
Home where I went looking for
My responsibilities no tug-of-war
I packed up and grabbed what was left
The suite looked completely
Untouched were we even here?
Loaded everything into the rental
That had been sitting there for
What appeared to be the entire trip
But I couldn’t tell the front from the back
So goodbye is close unmentionably
There was moss on the car
I jumped in the front seat and drove
Around the corner to a daycare
I was looking for my child but I didn’t
Have one upon my recollection
However a little girl stood up
For me and of course she wasn’t mine
But she recognized me as the teachers
Looked up my eyes clear I knew it was
My sweet boy that I was searching for
To find him standing up on two
Hind legs my little Brussels a dog the only
Child I had but I loved him
Just the same as a son or a father would this was
What I came here for this was the
Unconditional love that I didn’t have
To fight for this was home

In That Room

Where do you go
When you have no where to turn
When up is a cup of pleasure
That ends at the break of dawn
Certainly what is good
Will come out of it
Still the will to want more
Can fall short at the door
Also fancy footwork
In the making
Choreographing the days
To mimic the moments related
To joy and wanderlust
In a bed full of friends
On a couch with no space
For even one more rear end
Squished into the happiness
The laughter that lasts
Forever and ever after
As the calendar flips along
And the days droll and flounder
Month after month
Year after year
Remember my dear
The fun that we had
Don’t get too caught up
Becoming the businessman
You are also a bright glowing
Human of light and love
That knows how to have fun
In that room that you once
Found yourself satisfyingly tuned
To the station of life’s songful
Loon and an instrument to
Discovery not just robotically
Filling out forms
Paying the bills
Though you may catch your thrills
In different ways than before
Remember my dear
Have some fun like you did
When you were a kid
In that room
