We have so many
Identifying markers
To make it known
To one another
That this is my tribe
You are my person
We are connected
We learn to read
Each of the signs to know
What we are silently
Saying and speaking to
One another in an
Outward appearance
With our earrings our hair
Tattoos clothing and makeup
We stare we look away we
Are shy we are lonely
We are fully aware
It’s all there
Can I ask you to show me
The truth of who you are
To get to know me
A signal a sign of
Who we are and
What we’re looking for
Like fishing we all
Pick out the prettiest
Eye catching lures
And then walk ourselves
Out into the world
Just to see what
Might be coming
To catch us to love us
Do we choose to be careful
When emotions are running high
Are we cognizant
Of those who may be at prey
Are our endorphins in the way?
Tucked behind corners of
Themselves people are
Always hiding inside
The disguise of their
Most beautiful feathers
Until we finally see
What we think we want
Of what we wish we had
Of what is mostly not
We cannot truly know
Until the tent has dropped
