Five Months

Near may be found
Unremarkably so
Swooping in dimly
Coming close
To the shutters
Gathering lavish
Devotion

If the riverbeds dried
Nothing fallow to hide
Gathering soiled
Manuscripts

Even as the end of
The tunnel seems dark
Raining light on
Black cases of thought
Bottle after bottle
Broken into shards
Of blown green hope

Do you want to be
The mayor of the bay
Stand on top of the rocks
Eternally

Say…

I remember looking down
I could still see your smile
Written whispers
Stricken vistas
Even a dogs face
Shows a smile like the sun

You’re the one
Filled with softness
Underneath that
Bony exterior
Not like a corpse
But still a cage
I have yet to unlock

Underneath I am just like you
Perhaps this is why I can see you
The same person only in
Different skin

I thirst for you
Like this dry and parched stream
That subconsciously dreams
Of being a whole being
That belongs to you

Where will they bury me
One day
Perhaps in the dried cracks
Of your heart
Fused in a dampness
To relish for ages

Slip inside you
I resign to
Nourishment beyond myths
Paradoxical gifts
Pressed my lips
At your shoulder
Through wool
The greatest almost
The faintest wistfulness
Imperceptibly hatched
In a spring smelling
Of tarragon
Five months
After June

Once Upon A Love

I wake up to you
But I don’t come home to you
The permissions that you
Give yourself to be
With your friends
With yourself
But not with me
Different than the
Permissions that you
Give yourself
To be with me

What if the things
That my mother was saying
Were sorted so that I
Could understand
Myself

Unveiling deception
Asks the necessary question
To be a part of one
Another makes us some
Perhaps closer
To being estranged

Less likely to fall in love
Hopelessly and yet
Here we are
Attempting to chew
Away at the truth

Mother Nature

Find yourself there
Instead of covered
Walking through the splendor
Against the ascending
Merciless moans
Some folks start out
Behind
Some folks start out
Ahead
No matter where life begins
It seems we all
End up the same
Perhaps in some
Quiet October
Baring humility
With leaves burnt orange
And pink red trees
We have no choice
Mother Nature
Makes the call
Even the hushed crows
Watch as the foliage falls
Enchanted expressions
There is no voodoo speech
To stop the universe
From whence its tracks
Will not be shamed
Tomorrow cannot boast
Snare not what shall be cast
Along the coast
On long winds tail
No bitter tea
Shall we drink less
Nor breath inhale

Foolish Nightmare

Foolish nightmare
Outspread from childhood
Unsung tongue
Shadows reigned
Closely sustained
Singing undone to the trees
Asking to fly above
To meet the needs
The bread that feeds
All birds
Attempt to truly live
Come into the light
Why lie
When it enforces the spire
Reason with the
Vigorous temper
Though irresistible
Gloriously blameless
Waltzing through the black lights
Down the lane
Of clinking chains
Traveling in glittered bright
Nocturnal night
The greatest government
Averts the libel heart
Trading the brain
For chest
And heart for head
Foolish nightmare
You have not won me
Yet

Yin and Yang

Property lines
Zones within where
We reside
Oh gosh
Around the means
Of what control
On which side
We give unimaginable
Birth to our future
With every step
We take
What do we take
What do we give?
Are we troubadours
For love
Gypsies in the making
Back and forth
Returning to the same
Place that we started
Wherever we began
No one here
Is giving up
On the idea of
Living forever
Even if the ploughing
Drags us around
Like feelings
Without aim
Or a disappearing cause
I wish not to draw the line
But to open the circle
One for us to stand in
Together
Link by link
Word for word
With no question
Where your side ends
And mine begins
Becoming a kind
Of line untethered
Like the one
That climbs and twists
In between our
Yin and yang

Otherwise

Of course you are
The exception
I hope you know
Otherwise the twitterpated
Summer has subsided
The obsession is
Not riding
On top of my heart
Cracking the whip
Reigns hooked
At my hips
Beloved
You may be the pearl
Hidden in the middle
Of an Atlantic of people
But your breath
May also be
For someone else
A prelude suspended
In the back of a
Pickup truck
Hands held or not
Three dimensional love
In friendship and
Unknown territories
Of what we could have
Though we never have had
Remembering the
Mountainside we
Have yet to stride
The plants beneath
Our soles
Filling up the blur
Without a strangeness
For mistakes made
In love
No I’m not exactly ready
But the exception
Can always be you
Given to you
Avenging the fall
No panes
Between us
I wouldn’t miss this chance
Our living
In the moment
It’s important
That you note this
If you asked me
I would show up
For you

One of Them

I have a tiny heart
With giant feelings
In a big sky
With little clouds
Filled with
Enormous beats
Vibrating in
Miniature pulses
Red lights everywhere
I lookout for the green
Bright yeses
When the man
Says no
Who’s behind the decks
Anyway
Who controls the
Motherboard?
Anybody
Anyone with the
Check of approval
To check your box
With a big fat no
Be on the other side
Of yes
Find a way around
If the ship feels like
It’s sinking
Perhaps we’re swimming
In different directions
Destiny is a funny character
And the universe
Has many different plans
The earth is only
One of them
My friend

Remember This

Tonight is a good night
Some days are good
Some days are better
Than others
Tonight is really special
Filled with love in
All the right places
Heart throbbing
Happy to make it
Through the nights
That weren’t so great
How about a dance
While the crickets
Chirp in serenade
All in shiny black tuxedos
Freeing us from our past
Only new memories
The both of us
Creative passions
Hatched in Autumns’
Dizzy mystery
Assuring sights
For greater fields
To run our obvious obsessions
Through with the perfect
Release into what
We always wanted to
Become real
Conceived not in sin
But rather laughter
And the joy of
Obsolete wonder
That carries not the shell
Of how we dress ourselves
For the world
Walking down the footpath
Of every dimly lit street
But wide open
In the gaze of what is
More importantly
Our lightening hearts

Hard to Match

Unforgettable
Not untouchable
However harmless
Richly caught
In the glove of
My universe
Breaking open the
Outer skies
To reveal new stars
New constellations
Abound your eyes
Pierce my ears
With your darting
Looks and smooth
Surprise

What wicked wings
Do fly on the wind
Of those who spy
For what they
Wish to have
Is hard to match
Like you
And I

Green Pastures

The unsung
Cannot exist without feeling
Lucidity is a rebel
That finds a voice
Something with which
We can identify
Even exhausting struggle
Finds emancipation
The freedom
Sprung up like
A well in the core
A garden tended
Deep within
A harvest of optimism
Blind art and
Heart humiliated cries
Among the ruins
A daydreaming fox
Held suddenly motionless
Baring its teeth
At the grapes of
Glory and perseverance
In the blood red sky
Weathered by the fires
The villagers who settled here
Presented pale flowers
To the ones before them
At the shore whom
Were always wading at the bottom
Of each cliff in hollowed
Smiles

Accepting one another
Then place on the cloak
Of green pastures
Where if you lay us down
There is room enough
For this fabric to rest on
As a blanket for love making
And the blackbirds
Circle over with wear
Take the ring from my hand
And tie it up
In the length
Of your hair
