I Long

I long for a place
Where the unholy
Feels sanctified

The spread of something
Worth giving
Is exchanged privately
And especially
That place could be

Anywhere
But it feels as though
It must be somewhere
In particular

Can You

Can you feel
Time grasping
At you
Slipping away into
I don’t know where
Is there enough
Do you ask yourself
Where it’s all going
Sometimes

Sometimes I do
I think about you
The things I really want to do
Maybe tomorrow
I say before
It all fades away

Am I coming or going
Loving life without knowing
If the moment is now
Waiting too long
Could mean it’s
Slipping somehow
Yet out of the blue
The blurry images
Looking through
My tears
Fighting through
The years
I see you

Sometimes I do
I think about you
The things I really want to do
Maybe tomorrow
I say before
It all fades away

Do you see me
Looking back at you
In just enough time
Before I ask
What time cannot
Tell us
We tell ourselves
Dusting off
All the shelves
Knowing now time is you
Knowing now time is me
The only time
That we have
Is the time that we’ll be
Together
Do I live in your heart
Like you’re living in mine
I don’t want to confuse
Or waste
Any more time

Can you feel
Time grasping
At you
Slipping away into
Us
What could be us
If we just make a move

Sometimes I do
I think about you
The things I really want to do
Maybe tomorrow
I say before
It all fades away

Familiar Strangers

In these dark times
We need some smiles
Happiness defiles
The bitter heart
Always the slingshot
Along the creaks
And cracks
To the doorway
Of a pulse
That is stepping
Over the chords
Like a melody of grass
Rustling on our cheeks
Rolling down the
Hills of our childhood
Building a birdhouse
Out of alder wood
And dreams
Each therein branch
Broken off gifted
When we ask
The forest to
Let go of this
Mysterious
Bastard chain
Of bleak events
Wherein sunrise
Opens up like
Dawn regards the
Clouds without
Superstition
They are affixed
As hope wears
Tassels on our garments
Symbolizing each
Their separation
From the nations
Built around them
As a holy people
Would be if sacredly
Where with heartfelt
Communion upon when
We kissed the hands
Of one another
Familiar strangers
Eloquently

Life Has Just Begun

The damage is done
But life has just begun
Breaking through the concrete
Up into the sky
Reaching for the sun
Climbing over the rocky
Wonderland
Past the coins
Gems beneath our feet
Breath of life
More powerful
Than the pentacle
Married to the moon
Bed found in the grass
Dance floor
On the desert ground
Fireflies
Light up the floor
Cocktails in foxgloves
Dew drips on your
Lips sweat the pain
Swaying with the wind
Circling the fire
Ballet on the water
The damage is done
But life has just begun
Start from the beginning
As our ancestors did
Building up
Out of the broken
Don’t stop believing
The damage is done
But life has just begun

Sheer Silence

I grounded my plane
To investigate the sound
Of sheer silence
Ahhh, pure compassion
Unfasten the seatbelt
Stretch out my legs
I invoke my ears
To smell the air
And hail my landing

The Pope arrived
Offering reverence
With a rosary and a bowl of grapes
A manuscript
Beneath his fingernails
Was pleasantly etched
And indescribably faint precept
Left so apparent on my forehead
Where he touched it

There I planted a tree
On that day to remember
What a comfortable seat
The soil can be
When tilled in consecutive
Rows to resemble
An earthly rendition
Of neatly lined pews

In the west the sunset
Like a prophets consent
This is a hymn
Of convalescent descent
One solitary moment
Crowned round
Noble unions breadth
A place of safety robed
In stoic separateness

I Love You

The more love you give
the more you receive
I suggest we give it all
I love you

Every part of you
Inside and out
Realize you are
Someone before
It’s too late
Wait
It’s never too late
So do it now
Before you perish
All your good ideas
The light inside you
Is waiting for you
To grasp it
Can you see yourself
Somewhere in there
Do you see
What I see?

I love you

Broken Arms

Robin flies over my head
One less smile upon the earth
Life is not what we’d expect
Especially when we’re dead
Psychics don’t win lotteries
No one could guess
You wouldn’t be here
When I woke up
The next morning
My arms are broken
Without you in them

To see the light at
The end of a tunnel
Is to see your face
To know the romance and
The friendship of your
Embrace
Is to know that I
Had a taste of something
Really special
Some magical moment
For an extended period of time
But now that’s gone
At least the part
About you being here
Physically

But spiritually I hold onto
Images of you in the smoke
Impressions of you
In the shadows
Darting eyes that scan
From side to side
For some quick capture of you
As it was behind the lens
Of my camera
And the recording
Of the silver frame
In my mind

You were my movie star
My silver screen walking
Like a dream across the street
Behind me waving sweetly
And you still are my
Movie star
Just in a different form
I wasn’t ready for you
To become one of the stars
In the sky
Why now
Why now

I hug a friend who loves me
As much as you did
They remind me that your love
Is still alive
And that you’re always with
Me

With us

There was a fire
We didn’t know
I couldn’t rescue you from
What the end would become
My beautiful friend
Now enflamed
A record of your power
Stands to tower stronger
More than ever now
You didn’t leave quietly
No one will forget
The majesty you
Composed

A walking rose
Atop the legs of a queen
My love for you is infinite
Don’t forget that
Or about me
I’ll be chanting your name
Every morning just the same
You stand with me
At the altar of my heart
Beneath the wings of
Every protective light
What else can I do?
My arms are broken
Without you

Here

Why does this
Biological wiring
Find itself fighting
To exist
Coming up for air
And then not
Metaphysical electricity
Psychological wiring
Reading the signs as we
Spend our lives
Running from
Our peace of mind
Blank space
Yet racing for the phone
Is it an
Elemental fact
That the hamster wheel
Has become the Earth
Busyness constrained
To one area
The hedonic
Stay at home
Treadmill champion
Fleeing from
Newsreels of
Disquieting knowledge

Stepping through the
Backdoor to consciousness
When the brain wants to
Find something to do
Bypassing our
Realities revisioning
Habitual barricades
Desperate to touch another human
Breaking down
The formulas for fun
Caught up in the
Jigsaw puzzle of
Thought and feeling
Smiling to reveal
Even reality
Has a sense of humor
Afresh dancing in place
Now here we are
Survivors of
Immeasurable events

Cold

Emotionless
Unlike fire resolute
The suffering takes a stance
Proclaims it’s existence
I have a voice too!!

It can be cold and calculating
Sweetly and verbally skewering
Humiliating you
Dark ages are upon us
Light is inside us
Growing yet
Keeping still

Free will has had a taste
Of the reality to come
What illness breaks
Cannot be undone

As often soldiers do
We will too
Find our way
Through the chill
Breathing to fulfill
A greater home

Waking up on the other side
A promise to stay alive
Is in many of our hearts

Some are disillusioned
To absorb the truth that is
Extinguishing

Let it be said
That before we’re all dead
We have hope
We can cope
With the cold
The bleak and icy
Condemnation that bitterness
Slides around in
Holds less than half
Maybe a third

One for you
One for me
One for destined eternity

We cannot escape the glacial tide
We can remain heart open wide
The more we burn
The more we learn
But what is to be gathered
From suffering?
What is to be fathered
In a wintry spill
Of emotionless meaningless
Hurtful grief?

I find our relief
In the Mother
That has always been
In the mortal free word
Before the beginning of time

Carry us through
The sleeting cold
Armor conceived
To behold
Our destiny
