Familiar Strangers

In these dark times
We need some smiles
Happiness defiles
The bitter heart
Always the slingshot
Along the creaks
And cracks
To the doorway
Of a pulse
That is stepping
Over the chords
Like a melody of grass
Rustling on our cheeks
Rolling down the
Hills of our childhood
Building a birdhouse
Out of alder wood
And dreams
Each therein branch
Broken off gifted
When we ask
The forest to
Let go of this
Mysterious
Bastard chain
Of bleak events
Wherein sunrise
Opens up like
Dawn regards the
Clouds without
Superstition
They are affixed
As hope wears
Tassels on our garments
Symbolizing each
Their separation
From the nations
Built around them
As a holy people
Would be if sacredly
Where with heartfelt
Communion upon when
We kissed the hands
Of one another
Familiar strangers
Eloquently

Life Has Just Begun

The damage is done
But life has just begun
Breaking through the concrete
Up into the sky
Reaching for the sun
Climbing over the rocky
Wonderland
Past the coins
Gems beneath our feet
Breath of life
More powerful
Than the pentacle
Married to the moon
Bed found in the grass
Dance floor
On the desert ground
Fireflies
Light up the floor
Cocktails in foxgloves
Dew drips on your
Lips sweat the pain
Swaying with the wind
Circling the fire
Ballet on the water
The damage is done
But life has just begun
Start from the beginning
As our ancestors did
Building up
Out of the broken
Don’t stop believing
The damage is done
But life has just begun

Sheer Silence

I grounded my plane
To investigate the sound
Of sheer silence
Ahhh, pure compassion
Unfasten the seatbelt
Stretch out my legs
I invoke my ears
To smell the air
And hail my landing

The Pope arrived
Offering reverence
With a rosary and a bowl of grapes
A manuscript
Beneath his fingernails
Was pleasantly etched
And indescribably faint precept
Left so apparent on my forehead
Where he touched it

There I planted a tree
On that day to remember
What a comfortable seat
The soil can be
When tilled in consecutive
Rows to resemble
An earthly rendition
Of neatly lined pews

In the west the sunset
Like a prophets consent
This is a hymn
Of convalescent descent
One solitary moment
Crowned round
Noble unions breadth
A place of safety robed
In stoic separateness

I Love You

The more love you give
the more you receive
I suggest we give it all
I love you

Every part of you
Inside and out
Realize you are
Someone before
It’s too late
Wait
It’s never too late
So do it now
Before you perish
All your good ideas
The light inside you
Is waiting for you
To grasp it
Can you see yourself
Somewhere in there
Do you see
What I see?

I love you

Broken Arms

Robin flies over my head
One less smile upon the earth
Life is not what we’d expect
Especially when we’re dead
Psychics don’t win lotteries
No one could guess
You wouldn’t be here
When I woke up
The next morning
My arms are broken
Without you in them

To see the light at
The end of a tunnel
Is to see your face
To know the romance and
The friendship of your
Embrace
Is to know that I
Had a taste of something
Really special
Some magical moment
For an extended period of time
But now that’s gone
At least the part
About you being here
Physically

But spiritually I hold onto
Images of you in the smoke
Impressions of you
In the shadows
Darting eyes that scan
From side to side
For some quick capture of you
As it was behind the lens
Of my camera
And the recording
Of the silver frame
In my mind

You were my movie star
My silver screen walking
Like a dream across the street
Behind me waving sweetly
And you still are my
Movie star
Just in a different form
I wasn’t ready for you
To become one of the stars
In the sky
Why now
Why now

I hug a friend who loves me
As much as you did
They remind me that your love
Is still alive
And that you’re always with
Me

With us

There was a fire
We didn’t know
I couldn’t rescue you from
What the end would become
My beautiful friend
Now enflamed
A record of your power
Stands to tower stronger
More than ever now
You didn’t leave quietly
No one will forget
The majesty you
Composed

A walking rose
Atop the legs of a queen
My love for you is infinite
Don’t forget that
Or about me
I’ll be chanting your name
Every morning just the same
You stand with me
At the altar of my heart
Beneath the wings of
Every protective light
What else can I do?
My arms are broken
Without you

Gravelife

Are we standing in a graveyard
Of light or the underbrush
That caught fire to clean
The forest in our hearts out

Climbing to the top of
Every building
Shouting out fearlessly
We still have more life to live
We still have more love to give

Is the sound of traffic
Rolling by before our eyes
Emptiness or the beginning
Of something grandeur
Something big
Something that says
Live, live, LIVE!

What we thought was important
May not be what we believe now
But somehow the truest
Parts of ourselves
Are taken down
Off the shelves and
Placed into a quiet action
Ready to spring at
Any given moment

We are all connected in tragedy
For the first time
We are all realizing just how much
For all of us that wanted this
Connectedness we never asked
That it should come through pain
But then again the Multiverse
Knows best

The sun continues to go
Up and down
Down and up
We find new ways to fill our cups
Somehow what seemed
To matter before has shifted
The consciousness
Of life is found bright
Underneath rocks and stones
Vibrating deep in our bones

Is this a grave yard of life
Or catastrophic breath of death
Each role takes its turn
Each frequency finds its home

As we find a home in one another
Whether it be at the end of
Valiant sight upon the green
Looking over the serene magic
We imagined to build these things
The knife has light
The drum has passion
Casting rays of heat
Through drops of rain
Like the tears of our
Ancestors on some greater plane

Standing in a graveyard
Full of life with a beating chest
Pumping vibrantly
Looking back
Looking forward
With so much more to give
Live, live, LIVE!

Angel

I think I met an angel tonight
I asked him for a cigarette
He gave me two
And asked me if I wanted to talk

I told him everything
As he helped me off the bus
I fought my tears
And as we started to walk he said

You are lost in your own world
You cannot break free from the life
You have known
You are lost in your own world

As my tears began to dry
I forgot how it felt
For someone to be so nice
Will I ever be alright?
He said

You are lost in your own world
You cannot break free from the life
You have known
You are lost in your own world

Have you ever wanted to die?
It’s so strange to think that I
Could go from wanting to die
To wanting to be alive

She is lost in her own world
She cannot break free from the life
She has known
She is lost in her own world

Chainmail

There are no chains
Upon my heart
There is no restraint
For what flourishes beneath
The powerful beat
Of my inner
Rum pa pa pum
Would you like some
Of this endlessness
Bitterless love?
No shackles no tethers
None can trammel
The hamstrings
Of my sensitivity
I dream you concentrate
On me my love
I fancy an incubus
Of lust will welcome us
Onto the veranda of
Our daymares
Bathing in the sun
Moonlight resolves
Our nightmares
One by one
I kiss this pear
In remembrance of
My imaginary flair
For you
A make out session with fruit
A dash of patience
Cupped with mastery
Will do
If I wrote you a letter
Would you answer?

Fever for You

You send chills
Up my body and
Into my bed
A magical place
Where I suddenly
Remember everything
I forgot to do
You’ve got such a
Nice glow about you
Lanterns hanging above us
Swinging about
Rockabye love
In your arms
Albeit likely
Virtual for the time being
But you’ll be here
Coming around the later
Clock hour
I’d wait all night for you
Waitin’ for you is a tease
And a blessin’
You keep me guessin’
Suppose that makes me
Hotter for you
Like I’ve got a fever for you
Can’t hardly tell the difference
Between honey on bread
Or your lips on me
There’s a certain music
That plays in my head
When you’re around
Different than the tune
I hear when you’re not around
That song pines a bit
I’ve got the incense lit
Watching it draw shapes
Around the room
Reminds me of the shape of you
The way it lingers in the air
It hangs like the memory
Of your essence when you leave
Even though I know you’ll be back
I always play like it will be
The last time I see you
It makes my passion ride deeper
Faster in the way that
Jumping hurdles gives you
A kind of high
Like you can do anything
Every time we jump another
I feel my blood rise
I even want to bust out cryin’
Just a little at least anyway
To know that we have this
Somebody take my temperature
The doctor says I’m fine
Maybe their’s just no thermometer
For a sickness of this kind
